About “Alkagran”

Dear Visitors

Sincerely welcome in the town of Andrzej Krzanowski – the place where he lived, set up his home and worked creatively until the end of his days. This place is situated on the right bank of the river Vistula and it was described by the composer in accordion quintet „Alkagran, czyli Jedno miejsce na prawym brzegu Wisły”. –„Alkagran, that is the One place on the right bank of Vistula”.
Andrzej's work, which discontinued suddenly and prematurely, became an inspiration and guidepost to look for the way and discover various faces of culture and art, and his „presence” - surprisingly intense and regular – gives the fesival „Alkagran” particular dimension.
We believe the sounds and notes he's left us will long float in this special place on the bank of the Great River.
We invite dearly!!

Autumn music contest „Alkagran” takes place in Czechowice-Dziedzice periodically since 1991. It's devoted to the memory of composer and accordionist Andrzej Krzanowski, the author of the accordion Quintet entitled „Alkagran, czyli Jedno miejsce na prawym brzegu Wisły”. – „Alkagran, that is the One place on the right bank of Vistula”. This place is Czechowice-Dziedzice, Andrzej Krzanowski's home town. The festival's name comes from that title, being at the same time the acronym of first syllables of his closest family members' names (Aleksandra - daughter, Kamil - son, Grażyna - wife, Andrzej – composer's name).
The festival's opening ceremony took place in October 1991 during the first anniversary of the composer's death. The idea of the festival had been born in Czechowice–Dziedzice's Friends Society, and was taken up to be realized by the Town Culture House. The festival was entitled „Muzyczne Spotkania Młodych – Alkagran” („Youth's Musical Meetings”) back then. After four years the name has been changed to „Jesienny Festiwal Muzyczny – Alkagran” („The Autumn Musical Festival – Alkagran”).
The festival's organizers at present are Town Culture House and Little Academy of Music in Czechowice-Dziedzice. During the festival there are a number of concerts, meetings and lectures addressed to the audience - both children and adults. Instrumental and composing competitions are organized as well.

The festival programme includes::
  • Andrzej Krzanowski's works presentation,
  • concerts and music shows for children and teenagers,
  • ancient, classical and contemporary music concerts,
  • jazz, folk and sung poetry concerts,
  • theatrical plays and ballet shows,
  • lectures and meetings with composers,
  • music contests,
  • exhibitions
Reputable artists, teenagers studying at art schools and children are invited to take place in the concerts.

Festival events take place in the Town Culture House, the Kotulińscy's Palace, Grammar School and in an acoustically excellent Saint Mary's Queen of Poland church's interior.
